What are drivers hours and what is the Work Time Directive?

The daily maximum is 9 hours, extendable to 10 hours no more than twice a week with a maximum of 56 hours in one week and 90 hours over a 2 week period. A break of no less than 45 minutes must be taken after no more than 4.5 hours of driving.
 
 HGV driver can have no less than 9 hours’ daily rest within a 24 hour period up to three times in a week. This means a HGV driver can work a maximum of three 15 hour days a week (as long as all other working time rules are met).
