Who’s Responsible for Securing a Load on a Lorry or Van

It’s the drivers responsibility to secure a load.

However, it’s always advisable for a shipper to check that they have secured the load correctly. If a shipper requires a driver to secure a load in a particular way, they must either give him some instructions or accompany the driver whilst he secures their load. If the shipper has securing requests such as a specific number of straps, corner protectors, chocks or rear securing bars, they need to inform the carrier of this at the time of placing the order. If the shipper is not happy with the way the load has been secured, they can ask the driver to secure it again or clause the CMR accordingly.
